Description

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ¾ cup cold water
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

 

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Mix flour and salt, then rub in cold butter until crumbly. Add water and form dough.
  • Roll, fold, and chill dough three times to create layers.
  • Roll dough into two sheets and bake at 400°F until golden. Cool completely.
  • Heat milk and whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch separately. Combine and cook until thick.
  • Stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.
  • Layer one pastry sheet, spread custard, then top with second sheet.

 

  • Chill for 2 hours, dust with powdered sugar, and slice into squares
